Why am I getting bad matches for jobs?

If you have been matched to a job that doesn't suit your experience or career desires, then there are a few things you should check:

1)  Work Experience Classification

Check that you have accurately categorized the jobs in your Work Experience section. Only select the Categories / Occupations that truly represent things you did while in the job. For example, if you worked as an Administration Assistant, you could select some of the Occupations in the Administrative / Clerical section, and possibly some of the Occupations in other sections like Customer Service / Call Center, or possibly Accounting, if you also worked in areas like bookkeeping or payroll.

Important Note: Selections for Occupations within 'Sport / Fitness' relate to jobs that have a sport or fitness orientation. If you want to tell employers that you have been involved in sports teams while working in a job, then it is best to do this in your Professional Overview or in your Summary of roles and responsibilities section.

If you are getting bad matches, then go back and check that you haven't picked an Occupation that isn't really representative of what you did in a job.

2) Career Desires - Locations

Make sure you have accurately completed the section, 'Locations I'll work in or relocate to and minimum salaries I'll consider' - otherwise, you may get matched to jobs in places where you do not want to work.

3) Career Desires - Jobs I'll Consider

Make sure you have accurately completed the section, 'Jobs I'll Consider' - so that we only send you matches to jobs that you are interested in.

If you do get a bad match, and it's not clear after investigating the above 3 areas, why you were matched, then please let us know. You can report a Bad Match from your News Feed section.
